Possible reasons why Real Madrid didn’t consider signing Joao Cancelo

key youngster

There were no signings for Real Madrid during the January transfer window. However, it seems that Fran Garcia will be joining from Rayo Vallecano in the summer. A player they had the opportunity to sign was Joao Cancelo. Several sources linked the Portuguese international with Real Madrid.

The announcement that Cancelo would be joining Bayern Munich on loan from Manchester City came as a shock to many people. Pep Guardiola’s team regarded him as one of the best full-backs on the planet just a few months ago. However, it had been a while since the World Cup and things had changed.

Why did Real Madrid skip on a potential Cancelo transfer?

Despite this, it appears Bayern Munich was not the only team interested in signing Cancelo. The YouTube channel of Fabrizio Romano reports that Cancelo was discussed as an option to be offered to Real Madrid. Unfortunately, Real Madrid made no signings in January. As a team, they’re happy with what they have and want to believe in the potential Vinicius Tobias possesses.

This season, Real Madrid have been struggling with injuries and out of form in the full-back positions, which makes Cancelo a very good fit for that club. In his first game for Bayern Munich, he provided an assist and helped keep a clean sheet.

It has always been the club’s policy not to sign players midway through a season. Real Madrid will face a lot of tough fixtures in the month of February. Only time will tell whether they made the right decision.
