Souness talks about his thoughts on United striker Rasmus Hojlund

Manchester United

Graeme Souness recently shared his perspective on Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund. That is in anticipation of the Premier League match against Liverpool at Anfield. The Liverpool legend appears to have reservations about Hojlund’s abilities. Thus, referencing comments made by United playmaker Christian Eriksen about the striker.

Graeme Souness has expressed his opinion on Rasmus Hojlund. And it appears that the Liverpool legend is not overly impressed with the 20-year-old Denmark international striker. Souness has highlighted that Christian Eriksen, the former Tottenham Hotspur attacking midfielder and Denmark international teammate, did not provide particularly glowing praise for Hojlund.

Christian Eriksen, 31, has been a part of United since the summer of 2022. On the other hand, Rasmus Hojlund joined the Red Devils from Atalanta in the summer of 2023. That is for a reported fee of £72 million, according to Sky Sports.

The Danish faced an injury setback during the initial weeks of the season. Despite the setback, the Danish has made nine starts and three substitute appearances in the Premier League for United this season. Impressively, he scored five goals in six Champions League games for Manchester United.

What did Souness say about Rasmus Hojlund?

Souness said:

“This brings me onto Rasmus Hojlund. He cost £72million in the summer and still hasn’t scored in the league. I go back to when his fellow Dane, Christian Eriksen, was asked about him and all he said was that he’s quick and very aggressive.”

Rasmus Hojlund needs to elevate his performance for Manchester United in the upcoming match against Liverpool at Anfield in the Premier League on Sunday. The Denmark international is highly probable to start. And it presents a significant opportunity for the 20-year-old. That is to secure his first Premier League goal for United in what would be a notable occasion.

Acknowledging Rasmus Hojlund as a very good striker, it becomes crucial for the two wide players to create opportunities for him and play to his strengths. That is particularly in the upcoming match against Liverpool.
