Real Madrid are on the verge of completing their first winter signing

What prevented

The January transfer window seems to be a quiet one for Real Madrid so far. Despite a sluggish run of form after the World Cup break, the club has stuck to that plan. In the end, they lost to their rivals Barcelona in the final of the Spanish Super Cup. In the end, circumstances dictate actions, and it seems Los Blancos have had to change their minds, and are now very close to signing their first signing of the month.

Ferland Mendy appears to be the only option at left-back for Real Madrid, while the full-back areas remain a problem. When the Frenchman is unavailable, Alaba fills in, but the Austrian prefers his center-back role.

Real Madrid are desperate in getting a left-back

Real Madrid definitely needed to improve their left-back options sooner or later. After impressing at Rayo Vallecano, Fran Garcia had been linked with the club for a while. This move was supposed to happen in the summer, but now it seems to happen after six months. Until recently, Real Madrid was considering renewing Garcia’s contract, AS reported. In reality, he wouldn’t return until the summer. His loan will last until June with Rayo Vallecano.

Even though Real Madrid appears to be close to completing Garcia’s transfer, they would not be technically adding to their squad this month. Despite coming through the club’s youth academy, the Spaniard ended up leaving for Rayo Vallecano after failing to establish himself in the first team.

Garcia’s contract has a €10 million release clause, but Real Madrid has a 50% sell-on clause, which means that they can activate it by paying €5 million in transfer fees.

As a left-back, Garcia can be one of the best rivals to Mendy in La Liga next season.
