Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has acknowledged Chelsea can expect more “pain”

Chelsea are in a downward spiral after suffering 4 defeats in the last 6 Premier League matches. However under-fire Frank Lampard insists Chelsea can expect more pain in his rebuild at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea boss admitted to feeling the “heat” in the middle of a poor run of results. Speaking after a disappointing 3-1 loss to Man City, Frank Lampard said:-

“Any build or rebuild takes pain; pain behind the scenes and pain on the pitch occasionally.

“This is a difficult period and I understand the reasons why. Today the first half showed me the reasons why and we have to keep fighting and I’m the first one who has to keep fighting.

– Frank Lampard

At the start of December after an impressive 3-1 win over Leeds United, Chelsea were on a 16 games unbeaten run and on top of the table. However, fast forward 4 weeks, Chelsea now finds themselves in the eight spot.

“At the minute, we are in a tough period, I Understand it as I played here for a long time, I understand the minute that you lose a few games in a short period of time then everyone looks and asks questions.

Then everyone looks at it differently and says you spent that much money. Well, the reality is that a lot of the players who came in are young, new, have been injured, not played together before.

While Lampard is adamant he is at the start of a rebuilding process. But after a transfer window of nearly £220 million, expectations have risen. Especially at a club like Chelsea, where owner Roman Abrahmovic demands the best.
