ATK Mohun Bagan are set to sign Phalguni Singh from I-League club TRAU FC. He has agreed to terms with the club and will sign the deal in the coming days.
Several ISL clubs including NEUFC and Kerala Blasters FC wanted to sign the midfielder. However, the Mariners have closed the deal with the player.
Before his spell in the TRAU FC, he played for Manipur State League club NISA. Phalguni had a huge role in TRAU FC’s team, as they won the I-League 2nd division in the 2018-19 season.
The 26-year-old midfielder played his debut match in I-League against Kolkata giants East Bengal. In the I-League last season TRAU finished third with Phalguni leading the team. He was awarded the best midfielders award and featured in the team of the season.
He is a defensive midfielder by nature, but during the I-League he played offensively and smashed three goals while providing one assist in his 15 appearances in the League.
Mohun Bagan have already completed signing Bidyananda Singh from Mumbai City FC and Phalguni Singh will be their latest signing.
The Mariners lost the League shield and ISL title to the Champions Mumbai City FC. Currently, the club is preparing to participate in the Group D of the AFC Cup. Mariners will be facing the winners of the playoff match between ISL rivals Bengaluru FC and Maldives’ Eagles FC.
