Barcelona and Xavi worried with injury news

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Barcelona is set to play Shakhtar Donetsk on Wednesday in the Champions League clash. Currently Xavi and his team Barcelona are at top of their group with 2 wins from 2 games. Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez has been repeatedly hit with injury issues over the space of the last month.

The Catalans got their new goal scorer as 17-year-old forward Marc Guiu scored with just his second touch. They went on to win the match against Athletic Club. Sergi Roberto and Jules Kounde have been ruled out of El Clasico next Saturday by Xavi. But there had been some hope that Frenkie de Jong, Pedri, Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski might make it. Barcelona manager Xavi thought that he might be able to give Pedri and Raphinha some game time against Shakhtar Donetsk on Wednesday in the Champions League. This well help them in the preparation against Real Madrid this Saturday.

However, the disappointing news reported by Sport, is that none of those players will return to face Shakhtar on 7th November. When Pedri was ruled out, it was believed that he would be back for the Athletic Club clash at the latest. But Barcelona is determined not to rush with his recovery. Raphinha too was believed to be fit, but it appears he will not make it either.

It looks like de Jong and Lewandowski will be ruled out too. This will result in Xavi making into more makeshift solutions for their clash with Real Madrid. Currently Barcelona and Xavi only have 13 senior players available.
