Barcelona defender included in the potential national squad for World Cup

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Barcelona is clearly missing the presence of star defender Ronald Araujo in the first-team dynamics. It is needless to say that injuries have played a massive part in the early exit from the Champions League and the loss to Real Madrid in the El Classico. Araujo is out with an injury he suffered during the last international break. On September 28, the defender underwent surgery in Finland, and it was anticipated that he would be out for about three months. The player is expected to return back in 2023.

Ronald Araujo has been included in Uruguay’s preliminary World Cup 2022 roster despite still being recuperating from surgery. Araujo is listed on the 55-man squad that Uruguay has announced for the forthcoming competition. Uruguay has chosen to use the entire quota of players for the time being. Nations must submit provisional squads to FIFA by October 21. These teams must consist of between 35 and 55 players.

Despite this, Uruguay is still holding out hope that the defender will be able to participate in the quadrennial competition before it begins in Qatar the following month.

In order to do this, manager Diego Alonso has nominated Araujo to the World Cup’s preliminary roster. Up to 56 players are now on the squad list, which will eventually be reduced to 26 players in time for the tournament in Qatar.

The fear of rushing him out of his recovery looms around. This is something that the player has to protect himself from. Although while choosing to undergo surgery instead of conservative treatment, Araujo chose his career above anything else. On the other hand, Barcelona would want the player to recover and return to the squad in January when expected.
