Tiago Djalo: Player Profile

Tiago Emanuel Embaló Djaló is a Portuguese professional footballer who plays for Ligue 1 club LOSC Lille. He mainly plays as a central defender but also as a full-back. In January 2019, Djaló was signed by AC Milan for €1 million, as his contract with Sporting was about to expire. He did not play any game for AC Milan.

Djaló joined LOSC Lille on 1 August 2019 on a five-year deal, for an undisclosed fee. He made his debut in the French Ligue 1 ten days later. Djaló contributed 17 games to help his team win the national championship in the 2020-21 season for the first time since 2011. He scored his first league goal on 6 November that year, opening an eventual 1–1 home draw with Angers.

On 21 March 2022, Djaló received his first call-up to the senior team, after Pepe tested positive for Covid ahead of the 2022 FIFA WC qualification play-offs against Turkey.

Does Barcelona need Djalo?

Djalo has been out since March this year due to an ACL tear and his return is still unclear. Barcelona is understood to have kept tabs on the player along with clubs like Inter Milan.

The report suggests that the club’s sporting director, Deco, knows Djalo well from his initial time in Portugal.  Barcelona currently have Kounde, Andreas Christensen and Araujo for the two starting spots while Martinez is available as backup. As understood Barcelona is in no hurry to sign Djalo.
