Barcelona president reaches verbal agreement for signing Ruben Neves

Barcelona might sign Ruben Neves in exchange of Fati

However, Xavi and Fati both oppose Fati’s departure from Barcelona during the current transfer window.
Recently Sergio Busquets announced that he was leaving from the team. Hence Barcelona is now trying to add a defensive midfielder in the summer. Laporta persists on the trade over Xavi’s objections, even if Neves is not their top priority.

Xavi prefers Martin Zubimendi to fill the position. However a €60 million release clause makes it difficult for him to move. The midfielder for Real Sociedad recently extended his contract as well. Hence Real Sociedad will only accept the buy-out amounts in exchange for him. Sofyan Amrabat is now the second candidate for the role in this scenario. Barcelona attempted to obtain the Fiorentina midfielder with the option to purchase him for €40 million during the winter, but the Serie A club resisted the move. The Moroccan remains ‘passionate’ about joining Barcelona, although fresh rumours claim that things have cooled off recently. His transfer will also depend on the Catalans’ financial circumstances, just like any other decisions they make this summer.

This leads us to Neves, who will be a free agent in 2024 and might be offered this summer at a reduced rate. The relationship between Laporta and his agent, Mendes, should facilitate the transfer.
