Barcelona are set to sign Memphis Depay for a fee of £4.5 million.
Memphis Depay is a 26-year-old Dutch left wi-ger who plays for Olympique Lyonnais. Having joined from Manchester United in 2017 Depay has scored 63 goals and has notched 39 assists. This season he has scored 8 goals and grabbed 4 assists in 16 appearances.
Memphis is the most important player in Lyon and he currently plays a vital role on the left-wing. However, his contract runs till June 2021. And with no news coming in about his contract being extended it raises possibilities of him exiting the club soon.
Barcelona to finally sign Memphis Depay?
Depay has been on Barcelona’s radar since the previous summer. They had tried to sign him during the previous Summer transfer window. However, they failed due to the financial crisis the club was facing.
But Koeman’s desire to reunite with the star won’t fail as the club are ready to bring him on board for just £4.5 million. Lyon’s fear of losing him for free in the summer would push this deal to happen soon.
Barcelona will benefit as they do require an additional forward with Ansu Fati being sidelined for four months with a knee injury.
So Barcelona who are currently 5th in La Liga would need attacking options to bolster their attack. Barcelona would make sure this deal goes through as they would benefit from Depay’s arrival.
However, it will be interesting to see what happens. Because Lyon wouldn’t want to part ways with their star player easily. Therefore they will do whatever it takes to make Depay stay with the club.
