Leipzig reportedly had set a release clause of around £42.5 million on their center-back Dayot Upamecano. Bayern Munich triggered the release clause and Upamecano will join the Allianz Arena club this summer.

FC Bayern Munich were long-time admirers of RB Leipzig center-back Dayot Upamecano. Upamecano also drew a lot of attention from many of the top football clubs like Liverpool, Chelsea, and many others.

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel showed a lot of interest in Upamecano as he said Upamecano will be the perfect long-time replacement for the veteran Thiago Silva.

Jurgen Klopp also was an admirer of the French center-back who was searching for a partner to Virgil Van Dijk for a long time. This season, injuries to Joe Matip, Van Dijk, and Joe Gomez have left Liverpool with no center-backs. Hence forced Henderson, Fabinho, and youngsters Rhys Williams and Nathaniel Phillips to the defensive area.

Though they have got Ben Davies and Ozan Kabak and addition of highly experienced Upamecano would have been wonderful.

Bayern’ Pursuit for Upamecano and beating other Premier League sides

Flick lead Bayern to a splendid 2020 season-winning treble last season. Flick was looking for a long-term center-back in the market and who better than the French man who has already proven in Bundesliga and UEFA Champions League.

Flick also stated the reason to get Upamecano as David Alaba and Jerome Boateng(s) contracts were coming to end and they would be left with Niklas Sule as the only experienced center-back.

Upamecano will join Bayern Munich the following season and will be a very good addition to their star-studded squad.
