Bayern Munich: Defenders who may sign for Bavaria

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Bayern Munich has been rumored to be after De Ligt, Koulibaly, and Bremer. The club is looking to replace former center-back, David Alaba.

The Bavarians are having an amazing transfer window with Hasan Salihamidžić pulling all the strings. Ryan Gravenberch, Noussair Mazraoui, and Sadio Mane have already been presented as Bayern Munich players.

Defender drought in Bayern

However, the Rekordmeister lost both its center-backs from the iconic 2019/20 Champions League season. Club legend, David Alaba left for Real Madrid and Niklas Sule signed for rivals, Borussia Dortmund for the next season. With Julain Nagglesman playing with three men at the back, the club is in all directions looking for a new center back.

Matthijs De Ligt

Bayern needs a defender who can not only clear the ball, and defend. They need someone who can lead the team from the back. This takes them to the Dutchman from Juventus who’s been on the market for a very high price.

Despite Bianconeri demanding millions in triple-digits because of demand from all over Europe, Bayern Munich is looking to go all out for the defender. There aren’t significant options for the Reds because Lucas Hernandez isn’t a center-back. Dayot Upamecano on the other hand needs a lot of guidance to reach the level of the veterans.

This is the main reason why Bayern are pushing for De Ligt is that they need a defender so badly and the former Ajax player has verbally shown interest in the German heavy weights.

Kalidou Koulibaly

Koulibaly is an underrated defender in the football world. The Senegalese center-back has more than 300 clearances which are the most by an active defender in Serie A. Most importantly, this package is in the transfer market and drew the Bavarians’ attention.

The Naples defender hasn’t signed a new contract with the club & is looking for a move away from Italy. Whom does this benefit? Bayern Munich. The Senegalese defender is priced at £36 million by Napoli if any team wants to buy him. As a result, the club is fascinated by Koulibaly’s experience and playstyle which has Naglesmann running behind his signature.

Gleison Bremer

Gleison Bremer is a center-back who is currently playing in a club in Turin, Italy. Bremer has a total of 15 goal contributions during his time in Torino F.C. His stats and other performances have raised his value in the transfer market above Koulibaly.

The 25-year-old has drawn attention from Bayern Munich due to his playstyle that fits perfectly into Julian Naglesmann’s tactics. The Brazillian is valued at around £40 million making it easier for Bayern to buy compared to Mattijs De Ligt’s £80 million asking price.

Should Bayern sign any of these three?

The 6-time Champions League winners were title favorites at the start of the 2021-22 campaign. Sadly post-Christmas, the club took a dip in form in terms of defense. Fans were taken back to the days when David Alaba, Javi Martinez, and Jerome Boateng kept clean sheets with ease. Above all, the Reds were humiliated by a Quarter-Final exit where Villarreal showed them the way back to Munich.

If the Bavarians want to redeem their defense, they’ll have to sign players like De Ligt and Koulibaly. Since the Dutchman unlike the other two is interested to join Bayern, the deal may happen. But Koulibaly and Bremer aren’t going to be easy for Hasan Salihamidžić to convince. In conclusion, there’s time until August when the transfer window will close and Bayern Munich will certainly bring in more players.
