German giants Bayern Munich have joined the race to sign 22-year-old full-back Emerson Royal. The Brazilian, who plays for Real Betis, has attracted interest from many top clubs like Tottenham, PSG, Inter Milan, and Arsenal.
However, the Brazilian is contracted to Barcelona and they hold the right to decide on whether to sell him. Barca could either recall him from his loan back to their team or even sell him for a good price.
Emerson Royal joined Barcelona from Clube Atletico Mineiro. The Blaugrana were quick to send him on loan to Real Betis to help him settle into the new league. He has already played 75 matches for Betis in all competitions and has scored 5 and assisted 10 goals for them.
EMERSON’S CONTRACT SITUATION
PSG had shown interest in the full-back and even offered to pay €15 million for him. However, Barcelona are reluctant to sell him for anything less than €25 million. The only stumbling block for Barcelona is regarding Emerson’s contract.
The Brazilian is contracted only till the June of 2021. So if they are not able to negotiate a new deal, they could lose him for free this summer.
CAN BAYERN LAND EMERSON?
Emerson’ contract situation will be good news for clubs chasing his signature, especially Bayern. The German side is turning a new chapter in the next season. Many of their players like David Alaba, Javi Martinez, and Jerome Boateng are said to be leaving this summer. With the arrival of new manager Julian Nagelsmann, the Bavarians are in for a rebuild.
Their current right-back options are Benjamin Pavard and Bouna Sarr. While Pavard is an amazing player, he was also used in the centre of the defence. Sarr has not been able to provide enough competition for the position. Thus a move for Emerson, who could be a free agent is not out of the box.
