Out of contract Bayern Munich player Javi Martinez has found his new club. The Spaniard has completed his free transfer to Qatar Sports Club.

Javi Martinez was linked with a move back to his former side Athletic Bilbao. However, it came as a surprise when the midfielder announced his move to the Qatari Star League.

The transfer was confirmed when Qatar Sports Club posted a video featuring Javi Martinez in Twitter.

JAVI MARTINEZ LEAVES BAYERN

Martinez moved to Bayern from Athletic Bilbao in 2012 for £40m. He has been impressive during his time with the Bundesliga champions. He went on to win multiple trophies and was part of both the treble-winning seasons with Bayern.

The Spaniard played 268 times for Bayern in all competitions. Javi Martinez scored 14 goals for them during this time while playing at a deeper position. He was very versatile, playing in a defensive midfield role, as well as in the center of the defense.

Martinez’s time at Bayern was marred by injuries. Multiple injuries reduced his game time including most of the 2014/15 campaign when he suffered cruciate ligament rupture. Martinez unfortunately never played more than 30 league matches in any of his seasons with Bayern.

MOVING TO MIDDLE EAST

Multiple clubs were interested in bringing in the Spaniards. This included his former side Athletic Bilbao who was the favorites. Martinez played 250 times and scored 25 goals for the La Liga side.

However, Martinez seems to have decided that he wanted a new experience. The midfielder has joined Qatari Star League side Qatar SC, who finished sixth in the league last season.

Qatar has recently become the destination of many top players in the twilight of their careers. He joins the likes of Xavi and Santi Cazorla, as he will be able to have one last payday in his career.
