Bayern Munich star Joshua Zirkzee is closing in on his new destination. The 20-year-old striker could be on his way to Anderlecht on a season-long loan.
This is according to reports coming from the German news outlet Sport1. Zirkzee was not in the Bayern Munich squad that was named for the preseason friendly against Napoli. It is now reported that his omission was to complete the transfer formalities with Anderlecht.
Zirkzee had a breakthrough season with Bayern Munich in their treble-winning season. However, he was not able to secure regular playing time with the German giants.
ZIRKZEE FINDING IT HARD AT BAYERN
Bayern Munich are in a difficult situation, with the pandemic straining their financial resources. The club is also in the process of contract negotiation with many of its main players. With the club looking to bring in reinforcement, there is an urge to sell fringe players to raise funds.
It was already tough for Zirkzee to find a place in the Bayern team with Robert Lewandowski. The addition of Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting to the squad further pushed him away from regular game time. This resulted in a loan move to the Italian side Parma last season. However, injuries further reduced his game time in Serie A.
The centre-forward is in contract with Bayern Munich till 2023. A loan deal could help in reigniting his career and may even help him secure his place in the Bayern squad. Hellas Verona has shown interest in the Dutch U21 star. But Anderlecht now seems like his next destination.
