Boardroom politics delays selection of Tamil Nadu Santosh Trophy team

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Santosh trophy starts next month but there are no signs of an announcement from Tamil Nadu. As the Santosh Trophy approaches its commencement, Tamil Nadu is yet to announce a list of probable for the competition. Reports of unrest between Tamil Nadu Football Association and Chennai Football Association have come out.

A contempt petition filed in court alleges that Tamil Nadu Football Association does not have the powers to select a team. Owing to this unrest, the players and the fans are in dismay. Indian football is caught in the crossroads of this unrest.

There is a possibility for the situation to clear up in the coming week. A general body meeting is due in the coming week for the final verdict. J Jesiah Villavarayar, president of the TFA had asked all the district secretaries to send the names of four outstanding players from their district. A trial round was then held for the selection of players. The result of the trials is still unknown as we all wait for the announcement.

It is our understanding that the team is ready and will be announced soon. The announcement has not been possible due to the technicalities involved due to the petition.

“Selections trials were held and a team too has been finalised. We hope the national football body intervenes. We hope to get a clearer picture by Saturday’’– TFA spokesperson

The fans look forward in anticipation of the announcement. Clarity on this issue is certainly a priority for the fans as well as the board and players. Let’s hope for the board room politics to end so that business can carry on as usual.
