Chelsea Front Runners in the Race to sign David Alaba

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Chelsea are reportedly front runners to sign David Alaba from Bayern Munich after he decided to leave Bavaria.

Alaba joined Bayern Munich in 2010. And since then he has made over 270 appearances for the Bavarians scoring 17 goals in all competitions. Alaba is regarded as one of the most important players in Bayern as he has lifted 23 trophies with them.

However, the Austrian looks set to leave Bayern. There is no news regarding his contract being extended. And with Alphonso Davies becoming a favorite to start in his position. It looks like he won’t have a part to play with Bayern anymore.

Real Madrid were monitoring his situation closely and according to reports, they agreed on a deal to sign the 28-year-old. However, with there being no confirmation from his agent it looks like the transfer saga has left all doors open.

According to SB Nation Chelsea are favorites to sign the star. They are willing to provide him a wage of more than €11m per year.

Chelsea have been at the receiving end of criticism about their recent performance in the Premier League. And now they are looking to revamp their defense in the summer and they feel adding Alaba to the squad would be a major boost to the defense.

Alaba‘ versatility will help Chelsea solve their defensive issues. Chelsea have already conceded 23 goals in the Premier League this season.

However, they would face tough competition from Real Madrid who are still in the race to sign the Austrian. And with Sergio Ramos looking for an exit from Madrid, Alaba can fill hit shoes.

It will be interesting to see which club Alaba goes to. A transfer to Chelsea can materialize provided that they put forward the best pay package which could be given to Alaba compared to other clubs.
