Chelsea on the lookout for Alphonso Davies as Chilwell replacement

Certain players experience fluctuations in popularity. And a prime example of this was Alphonso Davies a couple of years ago. He notably dismantled Frank Lampard’s Chelsea in the Champions League. And thus stood out as the most sought-after young talent during that period.

Subsequently, his momentum has tapered off, and he no longer commands the same level of attention as before. However, according to Caughtoffside, he has reemerged on our radar as a potential transfer target.

At 23 years old, he has experienced a plateau in his performance at Bayern Munich, and it would be reasonable for Chelsea to express interest in challenging the German club’s resolve with a potential bid.

Chelsea will need to have a backup in the absence of Chilwell

With doubts emerging about Ben Chilwell’s ability to complete a season injury-free, there’s a growing need for more strength at left-back. Alphonso Davies can be a potentially excellent candidate on the opposite side of Reece James.

While Marc Cucurella and Ian Maatsen are currently part of the squad, it’s conceivable that both might depart. In such a scenario, having a top-class alternative for Chilwell becomes even more crucial.

On the other hand, Chelsea is also looking for a striker. Even though Nicolas Jackson is getting some crucial goals for the team, the club doesn’t fully trust on him being a complete striker. Meanwhile, The Blues are thinking of offloading Lukaku as it will generate significant money. Hence, it will be easier for them to look for a striker in the winter transfer market.
