Chelsea Gimenez, Football Express

Chelsea are looking to sign a centre-back as Thiago Silva’s age catching up and thus the Atletico Madrid’s #2 Jose Gimenez might be on his way to Stamford Bridge this summer.

According to the Athletic Chelsea have shown a lot of interest and are keen on bringing the Uruguayan international to bolster Thomas Tuchel’s squad in the summer. The 26-year-old has settled quite well at Atletico Madrid since his arrival from Danubio in 2013. Jose Gimenez has made 145 appearances for the club till date and still counting. Diego Simeone might not let him leave that easily as plays a crucial role in the backline helping them to sit at the top in La Liga and also has a contact until 2023.

Gimenez has expressed his desire to play for the Blues in his past interviews and his wish might come to be true at the end of this summer as Chelsea are eager to find someone who can lead the backline and he looks to be a pretty decent fit for them at the moment. Jose Gimenez is surely gonna be on the list of Chelsea’s transfer target this summer.

Does Chelsea really need Gimenez, looking at their current defensive form?

Chelsea are unbeaten since the arrival of Thomas Tuchel and have only conceded 2 goals out of which one was an own goal scored by Rudger against Sheffield United. Tuchel’s men are on a fantastic run of 14 games unbeaten and also keeping a clean sheet in the 12 of them helping them to sit on 4th in the Premier League table.

Looking at their recent defensive record and the current form they are in it looks like they don’t require anybody. But to compete for the trophies all across Europe they certainly need someone who can lead them from behind. Thiago Silva was always going to be an emerging option for the. But looking at his current run of injuries and the age he is in they need someone who can play for them very frequently.

Chelsea will welcome West Bromwich at Stamford Bridge in their next Premier League game after the international breaks.
