The Juventus legend Giorgio Chiellini has revealed that he wants to continue his football career beyond this summer, even if it is away from the Allianz Stadium.

The 36-year-old defender has been struggling with fitness issues in the last few years. For this reason his appearances in Serie A this season reduced down to just 16 games. However, he is currently one of the first names on the team sheet in the latter stages of the season.

Juventus bought Chiellini in July 2005 from Fiorentina for €7.7 million. And the current contract with the Old Lady of Turin will finish at the end of this season. And there hasn’t been any discussion over a contract extension.

The legendary defender has made 534 appearances for the Bianconeri in 16 years and scored 36 times. He has also been involved 106 times with the Italian national side and scored eight times.

Will Chiellini stay at Juventus beyond this summer?

According to Calciomercato, the future of Giorgio Chiellini is still unclear beyond this season. There was a meeting between Juventus president Andrea Agnelli and Chiellini.

However, there wasn’t any conversation over a contract extension. Chiellini wants to play football, if Juventus won’t give him a contract extension then the defender will play elsewhere or even in MLS.

Chiellini started his football journey with the youth system of Livorno at six years of age. In June 2002, Chiellini was signed by Roma for €3.1 million. However, he was loaned back to Livorno for the 2002–03 Serie B season. In June 2004, Livorno officially bought back Chiellini for €3 million.

The veteran defender signed for Juventus in summer 2004 for €6.5 million from Livorno, but was immediately sold in a co-ownership deal to Fiorentina for €3.5 million, and played with the Florentine team during the 2004–05 Serie A season.

Following an impressive first season in Serie A, Juventus recalled Chiellini for the 2005–06 season and Juventus paid €4.3 million for the rest of his contract. Since then he has won loads of trophies for the Bianconeri apart from UEFA Champions League.
