Christensen of Barcelona to miss matches after injury on international duty

Christensen

According to reports, Barcelona are anticipating Andreas Christensen to be absent for about three to four weeks. He picked up an injury while representing Denmark on international duty. Andreas Christensen plays as a defender for Barcelona. He has to undergo medical tests and receive treatment from the club after suffering an injury during Denmark’s Euro 2024 qualifier against Finland. The player had to be substituted in the first half of the game.

According to a report from Diario AS, Christensen will remain in the sidelines for a month due to a calf issue. This means he will miss the Copa del Rey semi-final second leg against Real Madrid. Other sources have also reported Christensen’s injury. Anyway, this is a setback for Xavi as the defender has been performing well in his first season at Barcelona.

Christensen and Araujo unavailability to create concerns for Xavi

Meanwhile, Xavi expressed uncertainty about the fitness of Ronald Araujo due to an adductor problem. The defender had to withdraw from the Uruguay squad for their international friendlies in Asia.

Xavi will need to make changes to his defense due to the injuries to Christensen and doubts over Araujo. The Barcelona defense has been impressive this season, having conceded only nine goals in La Liga.

Xavi may opt to move Jules Kounde from right-back to center-back to cover for the injured Andreas Christensen. The injuries of both Christensen and Ronald Araujo may also provide more opportunities for Eric Garcia and Marcos Alonso to feature in the starting lineup.
