Christensen to stay at Barcelona for another season as Xavi insists

The financial situation at FC Barcelona may require the club to sell some players this summer. Mainly those who are not central to Xavi Hernandez’s plans. Among the players who might be departing is Andreas Christensen. He came to Camp Nou last summer and has been in rumors with a move to Newcastle United.

However, Barcelona manager Xavi reportedly dismissed the idea of selling Andreas Christensen this summer.

Andreas Christensen signed with FC Barcelona last year on a free transfer after his contract with Chelsea expired. Although he missed a considerable amount of games due to injury, the Danish international has been dependable when he is fit and available. He gradually turned out to be an essential player in Xavi’s squad, on whom the manager heavily relies.

What made Xavi rely on Christensen so much?

According to the report, Xavi considers that since Christensen joined Barcelona, the team’s defense has improved significantly. The Danish player’s reading of the game, positioning, and ability on the ball have been top class. Thus, leading Xavi to believe that the Danish footballer is a crucial part of the team. Despite the possibility of Inigo Martinez arriving as another centre-back, Xavi has ruled out the sale of Christensen this summer.

Barcelona’s new signing, Andreas Christensen, celebrated his 27th birthday earlier this month. During his debut season, he played 25 matches and played an important role in their impressive defensive record, while also contributing with an assist.

Christensen sustained an injury while on international duty last month. However, he resumed full training this week and will be available to play in Barcelona’s upcoming match against Real Betis tomorrow.
