I-League outfit Churchill Brothers SC have signed in Guinean forward Sekou Sylla for the upcoming season. Sekou addition to the Churchill squad is the first foreign signing of the club for the upcoming I-League season.

According to Flavio Lopes, the Goa-based club have completed signing the 29 years centre forward Sekou Sylla on a one year deal ahead of the I-League 2021.

Sekou had earlier played for Yangon United in Maynmar during 2018-19 where he featured in 53 matches netting 41 goals. The player was on the radar of the Red Machines management but wasn’t able to finalize a deal with him.

“We were following him for the last two years and were one the verge of signing him last season but couldn’t get the deal over the line. Churchill Brothers is always a club that recruits goal-scoring machines and we expect nothing short from Sylla,”– Churchill Brothers CEO Valanka Alemao

Churchill Brothers started the 2020 I-League season leading the points table. However, few injuries in the team lead to the decreased performance in the team. They lost the I-League trophy to Gokulam Kerala FC in the finals.

Later the Red Machines released all foreign players. Furthermore, head coach Fernando Varela parted ways with the club and went on to coach I-League debutants Sreenidhi Deccan FC.

The Red Machines have appointed their former head coach Petre Gigiu as their new coach for the 2021 I-League edition.
