Dembele to return for La Liga clash against Athletic Club

Barcelona winger

Barcelona secured a commendable 1-0 victory against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu, despite missing Pedri, Robert Lewandowski, and Ousmane Dembele. Barcelona secured their win over Real Madrid in the absence of three key players. They missed the match due to injury. Despite their absence, Barcelona managed to win the Copa del Rey semi-final first leg. The trio might also miss the upcoming La Liga match against Valencia.

Ferran Martinez of Mundo Deportivo has reported that Ousmane Dembele may be available for the match against Athletic Club next week. The winger sustained a thigh injury during a La Liga encounter against Girona in January. It was his first injury under Xavi Hernandez’s management.

Dembele on the verge of his recovery process

As per the report, Dembele has missed ten matches due to injury, but he is in the final phase of his recovery, and Barcelona is monitoring his condition closely. They are being cautious with his recovery, but it is expected that he will resume training with the team next week.

Earlier, Xavi addressed Dembele current situation as Barcelona prepares for a hectic schedule in the coming weeks. But there is no confirmed date for his return. Xavi said:

“He’s doing some work on the training ground. He is working with the medical staff, and he will return to the group when he feels ready”.

Barcelona plans to give Dembele some minutes in the La Liga clash against Athletic Club next week to build up his match fitness ahead of the Clasico. He had played 28 matches prior to his injury, scoring eight goals and setting up seven more. His potential return will boost the team greatly.
