Fabrizio Romano explains new deal for Kobbie Mainoo at Manchester United

Manchester United

According to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United have held initial talks over a new contract for Kobbie Mainoo.

The 2022 FA Youth Cup winner has made his leap to the first team this season. He has 13 appearances so far. It would have been more if not for an injury. That injury cost him the first three months of the season.

Manchester United want to give Kobbie Mainoo a new deal like Alejandro Garnacho, last year. A new contract will include a better salary to reflect his importance to the first team.

Kobbie Mainoo lining up for a new Manchester United deal

According to Fabrizio Romano via his YouTube channel, Kobbie Mainoo is lining up for a new Man United contract.

Fabrizio explains – “They are already preparing a new deal for Kobbie. It is not an urgent situation. Man United are not forced to do it as soon as possible, but they want to do it this year in 2024.

“They want Kobbie to be one of the faces of the project for present and future. An important talent with an important salary. There will be a rise in terms of salary, they want to make him feel important.”

In addition, Romano added there have been early talks already, and is confident about an extension. He commented – “From what I’m hearing, initial discussions with the player’s camp, his agents already took place, positive exchanges, positive conversations, because Kobbie is very happy at Manchester United.”

Kobbie Mainoo’s current contract

Kobbie Mainoo has signed contracts with Manchester United in two successive years. He penned his first professional deal in summer 2022 after turning 17. Then he signed a long-term deal last February, which runs until June 2027.

Manchester United want to extend it further. They want to offer him a deal reflective of his first team role. Mainoo has scored two first team goals for United so far. His most recent goal is the stunning winner against Wolves last week to win it 4-3.
