Fabrizio Romano is sure about Sergino Dest leaving Barcelona

Sergio Dest

According to Fabrizio Romano, he expects Sergino Dest to leave Barcelona this summer. The American right-back arrived at the Catalan club in 2020 from Ajax for a fee of €21 million. But after struggling to fit in the starting lineup, he left for AC Milan on a loan term. Now that his loan term is about to end, questions arise of his possible future destination.

It will be interesting to see where Dest ends up this summer, as he is still a highly-rated young player with plenty of potential. West Ham could certainly benefit from his attacking and defensive capabilities on the right flank. However, it remains to be seen if the Hammers are willing to meet Barcelona asking price for the American full-back.

What did Romano say about Dest and Barcelona?

According to Romano, Barcelona is not targeting Reece James from Chelsea. Moreover, discussions with Celtic’s Jeremie Frimpong seem to have stalled, with the club now focusing on other transfer priorities.

Romano said: “Barcelona won’t be signing Reece James from Chelsea. He only recently signed a new contract and is considered untouchable.”

“For Sergino Dest they will look for new solution, I don’t see him staying but we will see in the summer. The market for Barcelona depends on Financial Fair Play; for example I said three weeks ago that they met with the agent of Jeremie Frimpong but now the priorities are different, the right-back is something that will be decided later in the window.”

Given Barcelona’s Financial Fair Play issues, it would be wise for the club to consider offloading players such as Sergino Dest. Regardless of whether they bring in a new right-back or not.
