According to Mundo Deportivo, FC Barcelona are considering to table a new contract for the Frenchman Ousmane Dembele. It is reported that the Catalans will discuss the new contract with Dembele after he returns from his hamstring injury.

Barcelona are in a financial crisis due to the covid-19 pandemic following which they are forced to load off several players. And one of the players on that list was Dembele due to his frequent injury and poor form.

But the Dembele situation has taken a U-turn after the Frenchman suffered a hamstring injury during Euro 2020 campaign. Following his injury, the 24-year-old had to be sent for knee surgery which will keep in out for at least four months.

The Catalans cannot get a fruitful deal for injured Dembele while the Frenchman’s contract is set to expire next summer. Due to this situation, Barcelona have decided to offer a new contract to Dembele.

Barcelona to offer a new contract to Dembele

Barcelona signed Ousmane Dembele at a huge price of €110 million from Borussia Dortmund in 2017. But the Frenchman has not been able to justify the huge price in the last few seasons. While his frequent injuries have also been a headache for the Catalans.

Following this situation and the current financial crisis the La Liga giants decided to sell him before the Euro campaign. But due to his injury against Hungary, the plan failed for the Catalans. And now Barcelona have decided to offer him a new contract to not lose him for free next summer.

The Catalans will be negotiating about the new contract after Dembele recovers and returns to the pitch in October or November. The club will be offering the Frenchman a low-earning deal due to their poor financial conditions and limited salary cap.

However, it is up to Dembele if he wants to sign a new contract with Barcelona or not. If not, the player is free to contact different clubs from January, as his contract ends in June. So, let’s wait and see if Dembele pens down a new contract at Camp Nou or leaves for free next summer.
