Bayer Leverkusen

Florian Wirtz has been generating a lot of excitement among the many new talents in Bundesliga. In spite of a serious knee injury, the versatile attacking midfielder has been a revelation at Bayer Leverkusen. As a result of his return from injury this season, Wirtz has played seven matches in all competitions, scoring one goal and setting up three more.

There are several top clubs in Europe following Wirtz. The Bundesliga wonderkid, however, dreams of playing for Barcelona someday, according to SPORT. Previously, Wirtz admitted he was a fan of Lionel Messi, the legendary former Barcelona captain.

What did Wirtz say about his Barcelona dream?

The teenager is reportedly dreaming of one day representing the Blaugrana. Wirtz once said in 2021:

“I always want to be the best. As a kid, I dreamt of playing for Barcelona. That has not changed, but it can wait.”

At least in the summer, Barça will not be able to do anything about this according to reports. In light of the club’s financial situation, any major move is ruled out. Consequently, Wirtz cannot perform any operations at Camp Nou since he is under contract until 2027 with Leverkusen.

Wirtz’s dream could be an opportunity for Barcelona to recruit him later on down the road. Barcelona are looking for a couple of transfers especially replacing Busquets being their major concern. However, their financial situations will stay as a thorn to their path that’s for sure.
