Garth Crooks applauds Arsenal’s David Raya following victory over Liverpool

BBC pundit Garth Crooks says Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya is impressing and made his BBC team of the week. Arsenal beat Liverpool 3-1 on Sunday. The Gunners deserved to win and dominated the game. They scored goals from Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, and Leandro Trossard.

Mikel Arteta’s trust in David Raya

David Raya, currently on loan at Arsenal from Brentford, is expected to complete a £27 million permanent deal in the summer, according to Football London. He is Arsenal’s first-choice goalkeeper.

Mikel Arteta wasn’t sure whether Raya or Aaron Ramsdale would be his first choice at the beginning of the season. But after the September international break, Arteta decided to go with Raya.

Since then, Raya has been playing in almost every game, making him the first choice. Ramsdale has only played in Cup games and made just one league appearance since September.

Initially, Raya made some mistakes in his early games for Arsenal. Some fans questioned why Ramsdale wasn’t playing instead. However, Arteta stuck with his decision and now sees the benefits of his belief in Raya.

Garth Crooks praises Raya post Liverpool victory

Garth Crooks named David Raya the best Premier League goalie for Match Day 23 in the 2023–24 season. He praised how Raya has improved and proved he deserves his spot in the Arsenal team.

“I was rather surprised by the way Mikel Arteta first introduced Raya into the Arsenal set-up, especially when Aaron Ramsdale appeared to have done nothing wrong. However, things have settled down since the Spanish goalkeeper took the number one spot,” Crooks said.

“His confidence has steadily improved with every game. He looked especially commanding in their 2-1 win at Nottingham Forest and even more secure in their 3-1 victory over Liverpool. Consecutive wins have taken the Gunners within two points of Jurgen Klopp’s Premier League leaders, and Raya is starting to look like he’s the real deal.”

Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya has earned praise from both Garth Crooks and manager Mikel Arteta for his impressive performances. Raya has become the team’s first-choice goalkeeper, ahead of Aaron Ramsdale. Despite initial doubts, Raya’s confidence and commanding presence have grown with each game, contributing to Arsenal’s recent victories. With Raya’s solid performances, Arsenal is closing the gap on the Premier League leaders, showing that Raya is proving to be a valuable asset for the team.
