Gerard Pique will not face sanctions after slandering referees

Barcelona defender Gerard Pique will not be punished by the Spanish Federation after the Competition Committee decided to close their investigation into the player’s comments in regards to Spanish referees and their support for Real Madrid.

Gerard Pique was being investigated by the Spanish FA to determine whether he broke rules when questioning impartiality of referees. He previously said that majority of La Liga referees supported Real Madrid, which helped them win the league last season.

The other day a former referee said that 85% of the referees favour Real Madrid. How are they not going to whistle in favor of Real Madrid? ‘Even unconsciously, how are they not going to give more decisions to one side than the other?  – Gerard Pique

Clear that Pique is not Learning from mistakes after debacle with referees

According to the ruling, “no offense was committed in this case” by Pique. And the statements made by the player were interpreted by the judge as a “legitimate exercise of freedom of expression”.

After the 2-1 El Clasico defeat to Real Madrid, Pique was again seen lashing at the referee after the full-time. For this Pique had to be dragged away by a side-line delegate. Pique got involved in a discussion with the referees criticizing him for his decisions throughout the game.

This time Ronald Koeman also joined Pique in criticizing the referee’s decision in the post-match interview.
