Gokulam Kerala FC Women’s team qualifies for AFC Women’s Club Championship

The women’s team of Gokulam Kerala FC is going to become the first women’s team to represent India on an international stage. Due to their winning spree in the Indian’s Women League, they have qualified for the AFC Women’s club championship.

Jordan’s Amman SC, Iran’s Shahrdari Sirjan, and Uzbekistan’s FC Bunyodkor will be fighting for the winner’s title against the defending IWL champions. The competition commences on 7th November and ends on 13th November. Jordan is the host country for Asia’s premier women’s club competition. Four clubs from four associations are competing in this edition of the competition.

FORMAT AND FIXTURES:

Teams will compete in a single round-robin. In case of a tie break,

  1. Points in head-to-head matches among tied teams;
  2. Goal difference in head-to-head matches among tied teams;
  3. Goals scored in head-to-head matches among tied teams;
  4. If more than two teams are tied, and after plying all head-to-head criteria above, a subset of teams are still tied, all head-to-head criteria above are reapplied exclusively to this subset of teams;

Gokulam Kerala FC’S fixtures:

7th November- Gokulam Kerala vs Amman

10th November-Gokulam Kerala vs Shahrdari Sirjan

13th November-FC Bunyodkor vs Gokulam Kerala

The team with the highest points will be declared champions.

Priya PV is the head coach of the reigning IWL champions. She has a ton of experience under her belt having led this team to the IWL title in 2019. She also holds the position of assistant coach of the Indian National Team.

Dangmei Grace, Aditi Chauhan, Dalima Chhibber, Manisha Kalyan, Ranjana Chanu and Soumya are part of the Indian contingent of this team. Meanwhile, Elshaddai Acheampong from Ghana, and Karen Stefanny Paez from Colombia are the two new acquisitions for this team. Formed in 2017, Gokulam Kerala FC also known as ‘The Malabarians’ have taken the country by a storm.
