India National team coach Igor Stimac is likely to get an extension till September. The All India Football Federation (AIFF) technical staff could recommend an extension in his contract till the playoffs of the 2023 AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers in September. While his current contract was valid till May 15.
The AIFF has called the technical staff for a meeting on Friday. Where they will discuss various issues, besides Stimac’s future.
The 54-year-old Croatian World Cupper’s contract is up for renewal. He completed his two-year tenure after being appointed as the coach of the India team in May 2019.
“The technical committee has been called on Friday and among other issues, it is likely to discuss Stimac’s extension till September,” – cited AIFF sources
Stimac approach as a manager of India Team
India played 12 outings under Stimac but have only won a single game. However, he gave fair opportunities to young talented Indian Players.
Stimac is yet to settle with his choice for the starting XI. As he is supporting youngsters to showcase their skills on a bigger stage.
He handed debuts to 10 players to take on UAE in March, resulting in a 6-0 defeat for the Blue Colt.
Certainly, he selected many players from Hero Indian Super League for the national team. Although not a single player from I-League got into the national team being the 2nd division league of the country.
