FC Goa signs multi-year deal with defender Aibanbha Dohling

Indian Super League Club FC Goa have signed a multi-year contract with Aibanbha Dohling. The defender had already agreed to terms on his contract extension in the 2020-21 ISL season.

The 25 years old defender started his footballing career playing for the youth team of Shillong Lajong. Later he moved to Tata Football Academy in 2011. During his stay at TFA, he played various tournaments for them including U-19 I-league. Also represented Jharkhand state at Santosh trophy.

After an impressive match for Tata Football Academy against Bengaluru FC’s under-19 team in the U-19 league. The senior team of I-League club Shillong Lajong signed Aibanbha in January 2016. He was handed his senior professional debut against the Mohun Bagan as a final quarter substitute. However, the match resulted in a 1-1 draw and both teams shared points. In his four years of stay at the I-league club, he played 25 fixtures and netted one goal.

After a successful season at I-League, he joined FC Goa in 2019 and played a single match in ISL 2019-20.

Lately, under FC Goa head coach Juan Ferrando Aibanbha received more opportunities to play for the club. He played 8 matches with a passing accuracy of 75%. He was also featured in the AFC Champions League 2021, where he played the whole 90 minutes against Al Wahda, but Gaurs lost the match by a 2-0 margin.

With the revised guidelines in the Indian Super League, Aibanbha can expect to get more playing time as the FSDL mandates the clubs to field seven Indian players in the field.
