Wellington Phoenix ropes in Kerala Blasters striker Garry Hooper

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Kerala Blasters striker Garry Hooper has rejoined his former club Wellington Phoenix FC on a two-year deal. Wellington Phoenix is a New Zealand based club that plays in A-League.

He last played for the Nix back in the 2019-20 A-League season. His performance was vital for the club to finish at third place in the league that season. Garry provided 8 goals and bagged 4 assists across 21 fixtures in the league.

The 33-year-old English professional has already played in the world’s top-level league and even scored in UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League and the Scottish Premier League.

“I’m really happy to be fair, signing a two-year deal and being back with the same staff, same manager and a lot of the same players. My family and I really like living in Wellington as well. We had a good season when I was there last, but obviously COVID-19 messed that up a bit,”– Garry

He also stated that he is very excited to be back at the club and return to New Zealand. Phoenix head coach Ufuk Talay mentioned Hopper can be a dependable goalscorer for the club.

Kerala Blasters signed Garry on a one-year deal during the 2020-21 edition of the Hero Indian Super League. Playing for the Yellow army, he netted five goals and registered 4 assists in his name.

After an ISL season without fans to cheer the club, Garry wishes that fans cheer his team next when he takes on the field.
