Sumithra Kamaraj is an Indian women’s footballer who was born on July 5, 1994( age 26) who plays as a Midfielder for India women’s national football team. She plays for Sethu FC in the Indian Women’s League. She was also a member of the 2020  AFC Women’s Olympic qualifying tournament.

Sumithra Kamaraj played for Jeppier Institute in 2016-2017 Indian women’s League later club renamed as Indira Gandhi AS&E. She later joined Sethu FC in the 2018-2019 Indian Women’s League.

All India Football Federation has announced the first-ever Indian women’s League to be held at Ambedkar Stadium here from January till February. The inaugural edition is for six teams, Jeppier, Eastern Sporting Union, Rising students club, Football club Alakhpura and a team each from I-League and ISL clubs.

The six players were: Dalima Chibber(FC Pune City), Oinam Bembem Devi( ESUFC), Sasmita Malik(Rising student FC), Sanju Yadav(FC Alakhpura), Sumithra Kamaraj ( Jeppier Institute FC), and finally Lalruaizeli(Aizawl FC) represented their respective teams at the launch.

“This is a begining for the women’s football in the country. We are starting with six teams and we hope to expand it to 16 teams in future.This gives our women footballer the option to take it up as a career”.

Sumithra Kamaraj has grown up in an orphanage and fall in love with an amazing game. She played for the same school and state before wearing Indian color. Sumithra kamaraj’s mother saw her playing football only once in the event that happened in Cuddalore. Sumithra says, “She was seeing football for the first time”.

Along with Sumithra, Sandhiya Ranganathan has also stayed with her in the orphanage and they both started their career at the same time. It was here that their football journey began.
