Lionel Messi, the former captain of Barcelona is expected to win the Ballon d’Or in 2023, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Ballon d’Or Ceremony

Next Monday is the presentation in France. According to Romano, all the signs lead to Lionel Messi winning the prize once more.

Romano took to Instagram to say that as per several indications, Messi will be awarded the title for the record eighth time. He wrote that Leo Messi was expected to win the Ballon d’Or

If the 36-year-old Inter Miami and Argentina legend wins it this year, he would raise the coveted trophy for a record-tying seventh time in his illustrious career.

Along with Lionel Messi, Erling Haaland of Manchester City is vying for the honor. After having a fantastic season with Pep Guardiola’s team.

Robert Lewandowski and Ilkay Gundogan of Barcelona are also among the Ballon d’Or finalists.

Lionel Messi Above the Rest

However, given the current state of affairs, Messi looks certain to win the Ballon d’Or. For a record-tying eighth time, having guided Argentina to victory in the FIFA World Cup 2022 in December 2022.

Messi, one of the best players in history, was a seven-time winner when he was at Barcelona.

The Argentine departed the team in 2021. He joined Paris Saint-Germain and went on to win consecutive Ligue 1 titles in France before spending the summer with Inter Miami.

The only thing the Argentine legend’s remarkable career had been lacking was a World Cup victory which he achieved last year, thereby “completing football.”

The former captain of Barcelona, Lionel Messi, deserves every bit of this eighth Ballon d’Or.
