Matheus Nunes

Rodri showered praise on Matheus Nunes following Manchester City’s victory over Urawa Red Diamonds in the Club World Cup semi-final. City has advanced to Friday’s final against Fluminense after clinching an easy victory.

Pep Guardiola fielded a relatively formidable lineup against the J-League outfit, but the team encountered difficulties breaking down Urawa in the first half. The opposition demonstrated considerable effort, successfully blocking numerous attempts from City.

A breakthrough occurred just before half-time when Matheus Nunes made a surging run down the right and delivered a low cross. Thus, resulting in an own goal by Marius Høibråten. Following Mateo Kovacic’s first goal for the club, Nunes played a role in City’s third goal. Thus, challenging the goalkeeper before Bernardo Silva ultimately found the net.

Matheus Nunes had a solid performance against Urawa

Matheus Nunes had a relatively subdued beginning to his tenure at the Etihad since his £53 million transfer from Wolves. He made a notable impact last night. Rodri had commendable words for his teammate after the game, acknowledging Nunes’s positive performance.

Certainly, with all due respect to Urawa, they may not be the strongest opposition. However, credit is due to them for their strong defensive performance last night, particularly in the first half, where they made it challenging for City.

Matheus Nunes stepped up admirably to assist City in breaking the deadlock and played a role in the creation of the third goal. It appears that he is now settling in and finding his rhythm in a City shirt.
