Manchester United eye Goretzka to replace Pogba

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Manchester United are planning an audacious swoop for Bayern’s Leon Goretzka. The German is on his final year at the Allianz Arena.

With no talks regarding a contract extension yet, the Red Devils are on high alert. Having joined as a free agent in 2018 from Schalke, he could leave on a free transfer again.

The Red Devils are desperate to extend Paul Pogba’s contract. His contract expires in June 2022. The Frenchman has attracted interest from Juventus and Paris Saint-German. Presently, Pogba is in no hurry to extend his contract and is carefully considering his options.

Manchester United want Goretzka

In case Pogba does leave next summer, Manchester United will be looking for a suitable replacement.

Goretzka made 32 appearances across all competitions last season, scoring 8 times and registering 9 assists.

Sport Bild claims that Goretzka’s camp are ‘irritated’ at the lack of contract extension talks. The Red Devils have tabled a concrete £200,000-a-week package.

Solksjaer’s men are not actively pursuing a new central midfielder. Yet, that is subject to Pogba’s future.

The Red Devils would be vying with Real Madrid and Barcelona as well in a race to sign Goretzka next summer.

Situation at Bayern

Bayern have offered €10,000,000 to €12,000,000 to sign Goretzka on a new deal. However, the German midfielder wants a significant increase in salary.

Goretzka wants a hefty wage package of €20,000,000 to equal Sane’s deal at Bayern.

Bayern are desperate to keep Goretzka. Julian Nagelsmann confirmed during his first press conference that he wants the midfielder to stay at the Allianz Arena.
