After the Super Cup 2023, the Spaniard Manolo Marquez will join the Gaurs ahead of the 2023-24 Indian Super League season. The club has offered him a one-year contract, according to a source close to the situation. The Goan side may announce the transaction very soon.

Marquez has gradually established himself as a well-respected coach in the Indian footballing circuit. However, the 54-year-old strategist has worked for some of Spain’s most prominent clubs, including Espanyol and UD Las Palmas.

In 2020, he was appointed as the head coach of Hyderabad FC in India. He has helped Hyderabad create a powerful team in his three seasons with the club. Moreover, he was the key driving factor behind the team winning the Indian Super League title in the 2021-22 season. Furthermore, he has helped other young players, like Akash Mishra, Yasir, Nikhil Pujari, and others, to reach their full potential.

Manolo ensured that Hyderabad kept Mumbai City FC on its toes in the league-shield competition in the 2022-23 season, finishing a good second on the table. Regrettably, the Nizams were unable to advance to the final after being eliminated on penalties by ATK Mohun Bagan in the semi-final. Marquez’s current contract with Hyderabad FC expires on May 31, 2023. Marquez indicated after their semi-final loss to ATKMB that he wanted to stay at the club, but he’d also had offers from other clubs in India and overseas.

FC Goa had an ordinary ISL season in 2022-23. Under the direction of Carlos Pena, they finished eighth with 27 points from 20 matches. However, it will be fascinating to see how Manolo leads this squad to victory.
