Marco Reus, captain of Borussia Dortmund, gave a calm reply to the criticism from Hasan Salihamidzic. The Bayern Munich Sporting Director had earlier questioned the attitude of the 32-year-old.
A war of word has been happening between the Sporting Directors of Bayern and Dortmund. Salihamidzic was the one to start as he criticised Reus commitment to the German national team. However, Dortmund Sporting Director Michael Zorc quickly came to defend his team’s captain.
The whole episode could finally be over with Reus not wanting to add more tension. He acknowledged the comments made by Salihamidzic and said that they did not affect him. Reus was speaking to the press before his sides first Champions League of the match of the season against Besiktas.
THE REUS SALIHAMIDZIC ISSUE
The whole issue started when Salihamidzic reacted to Reus pulling out of the German national team during the international break. While he understands why Reus could have injured himself, Salihamidzic was not happy with the fact the German appeared three days later against Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga clash.
However, his statement was met with strong disagreement from Michael Zorc, who asked the Bayern executive to mind his own business. When asked about the whole problem during the press conference, Reus calmly dealt with it.
“Of course I noticed. But it didn’t really affect me. That’s all I have to say about it”– said, Reus. It is not new for rival clubs to criticize their opponents. However, Reus showed his class and experience by handling the issue well, before it got worse.
