Memphis Depay disappointed with the absence of Frenkie De Jong

Memphis Depay expressed his disappointment with Frenkie De Jong. De Jong will be absent from the Netherlands’ upcoming matches against France and Malta, due to an injury. The two players were teammates at Barcelona.

Frenkie de Jong was Memphis Depay’s teammate in Barcelona and Netherlands national team. He will miss the upcoming games against France and Malta due to a minor muscle strain. This news disappointed Depay. De Jong has already played nearly 2,000 minutes this season with Barcelona alone despite a third of the season still remaining.

How did Memphis Depay express his displeasure regarding the absence of De Jong?

According to Cadena NOS (via MD), Memphis expressed his disappointment with the absence of de Jong from the Dutch national team. He said:

“It bothers that Frenkie de Jong is not here. For me, for the coach, for the entire squad and for the country. He is one of our key players.”

“I called him, it’s not a big injury and he’ll recover quickly. I am close to Frenkie and I am disappointed.”

Memphis Depay and Frenkie de Jong both played together at Barcelona, with Koeman as their manager. Until Depay’s departure from Barcelona to join Atletico Madrid in this year. De Jong is expected to recover from his minor muscle strain and return to play for Barcelona against Elche on April 1st.

Even though absence of De Jong will be tough for the Dutch, Memphis and co will try to fill in his gap. However, they will wish for the fast recovery of the talented midfielder.
