It was reported on Thursday that Messi had agreed to renew his contract and stay at Barcelona. According to reports, Messi is willing to take a pay cut to support his team financially in the transfer market.

One of the most highly anticipated questions Barcelona fans faced this season is that of Lionel Messi’s situation. In September, Messi was willing to leave the club in the January transfer window. However, he chose to stay until the end of the season. Messi’s current contract expires in June and he is yet to renew his contract with the Catalans.

Messi’s uncertain future has earned the interest of PSG, who are believed to offer a three-year deal contract to the Barcelona Legend. PSG also believe that the offer is economically unbeatable for any other club.

Messi is yet to comment on his future as he focuses to complete this season with the La Liga title. Barcelona are currently 3rd in the League table with 71 points tied with Real Madrid. However, Barcelona are the favorites to win the league title.

Messi’s contract situation

As per reports in September Messi was willing to leave Barcelona in January which was then under former president Bartomeu. However, after Joan Laporta was elected Club President, it was believed that Messi would be renewing his contract.

As per reports, Barcelona president Joan Laporta was seen having lunch with Messi’s agent. As per the report, Laporta has offered a 50% pay cut and a three-year deal to the Barca captain to renew his contract.

Messi has already stated earlier that he wants to be in a team that challenges the European competition. And it is believed that Messi would be considering the offer of a pay cut as he wants to support his club financially in the transfer market to sign some players to fulfill his dream.

It is also believed that Messi has three demands for his contract. He wants to play two more seasons at Camp Nou, he wants to become Club ambassador in the USA, and he would like to get a seat at the club’s board after his retirement.

Messi’ pay cut definitely helps Barcelona

Messi’s pay cut will help the club in signing some forward in the transfer window. It is believed that Laporta has already shortlisted some players like Haaland, Aguero, and Memphis Depay.

Erling Haaland is believed to be the top priority as the youngster has proven a lot with his impressive performance for Borussia Dortmund. He is the second top scorer in the Bundesliga this season with 25 goals to his name. He is also the top scorer in the champions league with 10 goals.

Barcelona’s attacking has not been impressive this season which has cost heavily for them in the Champions League. And now they are in desperate need of a forward for the next season. Messi’s pay cut would definitely help the club to sign a forward like Haaland.
