A month after back-to-back away fixtures, football finally returned to the Camp Nou — where Leo Messi netted his 650th career goal in Barca shirt, against Athletic Bilbao.

After he was sent off for the very first time during the final of the Spanish Super Cup, Messi still managed to advance an impressive game.

The 33-year-old Argentine, despite having rumors whirling around his published €555 million contract, edged a stunning free-kick and contributed to a great 2-1 win over The Lions on a windy Sunday night.

Messi has now scored a total of 650 goals in 755 matches. Out of those, 49 of them are straight-up scored from free-kicks. Also with this latest hit, Messi, at present is ranking second behind former teammate, Luis Suarez in the ongoing Pichichi Trophy race.

Messi and Griezmann Shined in FC BARCELONA 2-1 ATHLETIC BILBAO Clash:

Messi stroke a wonderful free kick in the 20th minute, and put the Blaugrana upfront during the first half. However, the score was tallied when Jordi Alba came across Raul Garcia‘ pass in the 49th minute and gifted the visitors with an own goal.

After the close draw, the French forward Antoine Griezmann with Oscar Mingueza‘ pass coped to fizz a goal through the 74th minute.

This game has now lifted Barcelona onto the 2nd position in La Liga. They yet stand loose of 10 points below reigning leaders, Atletico Madrid. After a wild 5-3 win over Granada yesterday, Barcelona have booked a spot for themselves in the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey. Ronald Koeman and his side will face Real Betis on Monday.
