Mexx Meerdink is a young Dutch midfielder. He has been making waves for AZ Alkmaar’s youth team in the UEFA Youth League this season. The 18-year-old has been impressing with his technical ability, vision and creativity in midfield. Hence, he caught the eye of several top clubs across Europe, including Barcelona.

Barcelona have a long history of scouting and developing young talent. Thus, Meerdink could be a player that fits the profile of a typical Barcelona midfielder. However, it remains to be seen if the club will make a move for him in the future.

Mexx Meerdink performance in the final of UEFA Youth League

On Monday, Mexx Meerdink played a significant role in AZ Alkmaar’s U19 side winning the UEFA Youth League final against Hajduk Split. He scored twice in the match. In addition, he had also scored against U19 sides of Barcelona and Real Madrid in the knockout stages of the tournament.

It seems that Meerdink has expressed his desire to play for Barcelona in the future. This is as per a report from Khalid & Sophie cited(via Sport). He said: “The club in which I would like to play? Barcelona.” However, it should be noted that many young players express their admiration for top clubs, and it does not necessarily mean that a transfer is imminent or even likely.

He has made only a few appearances for AZ Alkmaar’s senior team this season without scoring. Still Meerdink is regarded as a promising talent and could have a bright future ahead of him. Barcelona will likely monitor his progress over the coming years.
