Onana is worth more says Ajax Sporting Director

André Onana

Ajax Sporting Director Marc Overmars was vocal about their banned goalkeeper Andre Onana. The Cameroon international is currently serving the last few months of his one year ban.

Prior to the disciplinary actions, Onana was one of the most sought goalkeepers in the market. The traffic for his signature is low now, though Inter Milan is looking to sign the Ajax star.

Onana will return to action in the month of November. However, he might not be playing for Ajax by that time.

AJAX COULD LOSE ONANA FOR FREE

Marc Overmars was talking about Onana and his situation. The goalkeeper is undergoing a 12-month suspension, given by the disciplinary body of UEFA. Moreover his ban is for testing positive for the substance Furosemide.

This has affected both the player and the club. For Onana, the player cannot train with his team. And for Ajax, the club is not sure how to proceed. Onana was one of the best young goalkeepers and attracted interest from many top clubs. The ban has reduced the value of the player, while Ajax was not able to use him at all.

“For some clubs, his situation may be an opportunity. Because if he had had a longer contract and he wasn’t currently suspended, he would be worth €30 million.”– said Marc Overmars.

The former Barcelona youth player is now on the verge of joining Inter Milan. Milan are looking to replace their veteran keeper Samir Handanovic. With only one year left in his contract, Ajax could lose Onana for a free transfer.
