Football pundit Lee Dixon suggested that Chelsea may have discovered the best position for Mykhailo Mudryk to shine at Stamford Bridge.

During his commentary on ITV4 for Chelsea’s 3-2 victory over Leeds in the FA Cup. Dixon noticed that Mykhailo Mudryk had a greater impact when playing in a central role assigned by Mauricio Pochettino.

Optimal Role for Mykhailo Mudryk: Dixon’s Insight and Potential Impact

The 23-year-old midfielder scored a crucial goal for Chelsea late in the first half, giving them the lead after Leeds had equalized. Conor Gallagher, who came off the bench, scored the winning goal in the last minute, securing Chelsea’s spot in the quarter-finals against Leicester City.

Mudryk, who has mostly played on the left wing since joining Chelsea, looked less comfortable when pushed out wide after Gallagher’s entry.

Mykhailo Mudryk has scored four goals and provided two assists for Chelsea this season across all competitions.

Dixon believes that the central attacking role suits Mudryk better. He stated,

“I do prefer him in that 10, because I think when he goes wide, if you’ve got a clever full-back, however quick he is you can squeeze him out the game. In the 10, he can have a little wonder.”

“Sometimes you need a player in the team who you can just let do what they want. Sometimes you need to carry them, and he has two midfielders behind him who can do that.”

Mudryk’s adjustment to life at Stamford Bridge hasn’t been easy, but his performance against Leeds might have convinced Pochettino to keep him in the starting lineup for the next Premier League game against Brentford on Saturday.
