Camavinga

Petre Gigiu who guided the Churchill Brothers to a fourth position in the 2018-19 I-League season is back to coach the Red Machines once again. The Goa-based club has appointed Petre as their head coach for the upcoming season.

Fernando Varela had replaced Petre during the 2020 I-League edition. Under his guidance, the Red machines emerged as the runners-up of 2020-21. Recently, Fernando moved to I-League debutants Sreenidhi FC.

“These were really good (foreign) players we had. However, they couldn’t extend their stay due to personal reasons. We have retained most of the Indian players and the process to identify new foreigners has already started. We have already appointed coach Petre Gigiu,”– Churchill Brothers CEO Valanka Alemao

Luca Majcen and Clayvin Zuniga were in the top four goal scorer listing of the season. The duo scored 19 goals collectively out of the 22 goals scored by the club. The Slovenian forward Luca netted 11 goals, while Honduran midfielder Clayvin scored eight times. Both players had an obvious role for the club in winning the runners-up title.

With the departure of Fernando, the club has also released all four foreign players. The former 67-year-old Romanian manager will have to build the team from scratch.
