Real Madrid could be a new challenge for Lewandowski

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Real Madrid have had Bayern Munich starman Robert Lewandowski on their radar for a while now. They are plotting a move for the Poland international should they fail to bring in Mbappe. The 32-year-old striker is reportedly eyeing up a new challenge in his prolific career.

Mbappé, whose has a contract with Paris Saint-Germain till 2022, remains Los Blancos’ number one target. However, PSG will not let the Frenchman leave for a puny price. This could force Madrid to hold out till next year, when he becomes a free agent.

After Mbappé, Madrid want to divert their attention on acquiring Dortmund’s Erling Haaland. The 20-year-old was one of their original targets. However, Dortmund have allegedly slapped a huge asking price, around €175,000,000, making him almost unattainable.

Lewandowski has enjoyed a legendary career at the Allianz Arena. The striker has scored 294 goals from just 329 appearances and has held silverware on a regular basis.

After spending 11 highly successful years in Germany, the Pole wants a fresh new challenge. According to Spanish media, Real Madrid is a dream destination for Lewandowski.

Demonstrating his efficacy, Lewandowski scored 41 goals in the Bundesliga last season. This breaks Gerd Muller’s record of 40 goals in a league season. He also netted twice for Poland in the Euro 2020.

His contract at Bayern runs out in 2023 and the club are concerned that he might leave next year at a lower transfer fee. Bayern are keen not to lose their best player for a cut-price fee or a free transfer. However, they are considering long-term replacements for their talisman.
