Politics are deeply rooted in Real Madrid, and the manager’s role is highly susceptible to it. Raul has done an admirable job with Real Madrid Castilla. They are second in their Primera RFEF group and contending for promotion. But Raul Gonzalez is no longer the primary internal candidate to transition to the first team.
Alvaro Arbeloa, a former right-back currently coaches the under-19 side. He surpassed Raul as the preferred option for Real Madrid. Cadena SER suggests that the tribute honoring Juvenil A’s Copa del Rey victory before Real Madrid’s match against Real Valladolid was not coincidental.
Why is Real Madrid preferring Arbeloa over Raul?
Arbeloa has a closer relationship with President Florentino Perez than Raul. There is a faction within the club that longs for the Jose Mourinho era. Mourinho has been considered as a potential candidate for the bench next season in the event that Carlo Ancelotti departs. Arbeloa, who was one of Mourinho’s staunchest supporters in the dressing room during his tenure, serves as a reminder of that era.
It is worth noting that Arbeloa has been performing admirably with the under-19 team. Next season, he might take over Raul’s Castilla side or advance to the first team as an assistant. Or, less likely, as the manager himself. However, what is evident is that Arbeloa has surpassed Raul in the pecking order for the next first-team manager position.
In contrast, it seems more probable that Raul will depart from the club in the summer to continue his progress elsewhere. Since, his prospects at Real Madrid have been impeded after the rise of Arbeloa.
