Real Madrid secured a comfortable 2-0 victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the second leg of UCL quarters. Thus, completing a 4-0 aggregate win to progress to the semi-finals. They will now await the winner of the Manchester City vs Bayern Munich tie to find out their next opponent in the competition.

Rodrygo scored two goals in the second half. Thereby, extinguishing any chances of a Chelsea comeback. Thus allowing the reigning champions, Real Madrid, to comfortably advance to the semi-finals after a dominant first half display from Chelsea.

What did Real Madrid manager Ancelotti say?

Real Madrid boss Ancelotti later said:

“It was known that we had to suffer in this type of game. They have tried everything. They have created problems for us especially on the left side, then we have fixed it. It was a complete game, it’s normal to suffer. We had a very solid level in defence and it’s a well-deserved victory.”

However, the triumph was not without its setbacks. As Real Madrid had to deal with some injury concerns during the game. David Alaba left at half-time due to a muscle injury, while Eder Militao received another yellow card. This makes Eder Militao unavailable for the first leg of the semi-finals. Moreover, Karim Benzema had to be taken off late in the game due to a foot injury.

Ancelotti reflected on the issue:

“Alaba has had a problem, his hamstring was tight and we had made the change at the end of the first half. Karim had a blow, a stomp on his foot, it started to bother him at the end and we changed him.”
